WEST ORANGE-STARK over SILSBEE—After getting off to an unusually slow start this season, the Mustangs appear to be on their usual course at this time of the season. But they will be hosting the Silsbee Tigers, a team a few people (idiots) picked to win District 11-4A-II. The Tigers did beat a former state champion three weeks ago, but were upset by Orangefield in the district opener the following week while basking in their glory.

HUFFMAN over LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE—The Battlin’ Bears pulled off an upset last week by shutting out Jasper and could very well pull off another one in the District 10-4A-I opener Friday night against the undefeated Falcons who are highly ranked in the Houston area polls.

BRIDGE CITY over HARDIN-JEFFERSON—The Hawks are off to a slow start (1-4) and might eye the Cardinals as their only district conquest. The Redbirds would like nothing better than to even both their district and overall records before the home fans Friday night.

ORANGEFIELD over LIBERTY—The Bobcats proved they can win on the road, but the Panthers appear to be a stronger test for the scrappy ‘Cats. Their open date last week should help heal the bumps and bruises and give Orangefield an extra week to prepare for Friday night’s game. A word of warning—don’t look ahead to next week’s big home game against the Mighty Mustangs!!!

VIDOR over SPLENDORA—The Pirates escaped the pre-district schedule unscathed and begin District 10-4A-I play against a team with only one loss. It won’t be easy, but Vidor should come out still undefeated.

DEWEYVILLE over HULL-DAISETTA—The Pirates won only once before Friday’s District 12-2A-II opener and are ready to get down to business defending their district championship. But they must have success on the road.

SAM HOUSTON STATE over LAMAR—The Bearkats edged past rival Stephen F. Austin 21-20 last week and will welcome the Cardinals to their Huntsville home Saturday. They may prove to be unruly hosts.

SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA over McNEESE STATE—The Cowboys got trampled by Incarnate Word last week and things won’t be any better when they return home Saturday to host the Lions from Hammond.
