Games This Week

WEST ORANGE-STARK over LIBERTY—The Mustangs are well on their way to another district championship, but must not divert their attention from the ultimate goal of continuing to play solid football. Orangefield played a great first half last week, but the Mustangs’ depth finally took over after the intermission. The Panthers will come to Dan Hooks Stadium Friday night with one thought in mind—upset the Mustangs. WO-S must avert a letdown.

LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE over LUMBERTON—Hopefully the Battlin’ Bears jump back into the victory column after last week’s loss to the undefeated Vidor Pirates. But it won’t come easy and could be classified as an upset. LC-M needs to play four quarters of solid football in this crucial road encounter.

ORANGEFIELD over BRIDGE CITY—This has been a tremendous rivalry over the years and Friday night will be no exception. Both teams are coming off of losses last week and this rivalry will determine which team can rebound from the setback.

VIDOR over LIVINGSTON—The Pirates are coming off a solid victory over cross-county rival LCM and would love to continue on their road to an undefeated season. But the Lions have played well in most games this season and would love to put a hickey on the Pirates’ unblemished record.

DEWEYVILLE over EVADALE—The Pirates had an unscheduled open date last week when Sabine Pass canceled the remainder of their season. So technically, they have two weeks to prepare for this home game on Friday and hopefully that will be enough time to post a victory.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS over LAMAR—The Cards are coming off one of their best efforts of the season only to just barely fall short in their rematch with Abilene Christian Saturday night. If they continue to play well again this week, the Redbirds could excite their home fans with an upset victory.

McNEESE STATE over INCARNATE WORD—The Cowboys were defeated by this team in San Antonio earlier this year, but Saturday afternoon is Homecoming and the Cowboys always play well before us exes. The Pokes are coming off an impressive road win against Northwestern State and hope to establish a mid-season winning streak.

HIGH SCHOOL-- Beaumont West Brook over Humble Summer Creek, Beaumont United over La Porte, Port Arthur Memorial over Baytown Lee, Crosby over Port Neches-Groves, Nederland over Barbers Hill, Jasper over Shepherd, Silsbee over Hamshire-Fannett, Anahuac over Buna, East Chambers over Kirbyville, Kountze over Anderson-Shiro.

COLLEGE—Coastal Carolina over Appalachian State (Today); SMU over Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette over Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic over Charlotte, San Jose State over UNLV (All Thursday); Middle Tennessee State over UConn, Central Florida over Memphis, Colorado State over Utah State, Washington over Arizona (All Friday); Western Michigan over Toledo, Florida State over Massachusetts, Georgia State over Texas State, Ohio State over Indiana, Buffalo over Akron, Penn State over Illinois, Virginia over Georgia Tech, Louisville over Boston College, Virginia Tech over Syracuse, Clemson over Pittsburgh, Minnesota over Maryland, Michigan over Northwestern, Central Michigan over Northern Illinois, Kent State over Ohio, Cincinnati over Navy, North Carolina State over Miami, Army over Wake Forest (Upset Special), South Florida over Temple, Eastern Michigan over Bowling Green, Houston over East Carolina, Oklahoma over Kansas, Ball State over Miami, O., Wyoming over New Mexico, California over Colorado, Utah over Oregon State, Washington State over BYU, Oregon over UCLA, Texas Tech over Kansas State, TCU over West Virginia, Oklahoma State over Iowa State, UAB over Rice, Alabama over Tennessee, Texas A&M over South Carolina, Mississippi State over Vanderbilt, Purdue over Wisconsin, Ole Miss over LSU, South Alabama over Louisiana-Monroe, Liberty over North Texas, UTSA over Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky over Florida International, Air Force over San Diego State, Notre Dame over Southern Cal, Fresno State over Nevada, Hawaii over New Mexico State (All Saturday).

PRO PICKS—Cleveland over Denver (Thursday Night); Miami over Atlanta, Carolina over NY Giants, Baltimore over Cincinnati, Kansas City over Tennessee, New England over NY Jets, Green Bay over Washington, LA Rams over Detroit, Philadelphia over Las Vegas (Upset Special), Tampa Bay over Chicago, Arizona over Houston, San Francisco over Indianapolis (All Sunday); New Orleans over Seattle (Monday Night). Bye week for Jacksonville, Buffalo, Dallas, LA Chargers, Pittsburgh and Minnesota.
