Dorothy Evelyn Atkins Harris Luther, 95, of Orange, passed away at her home in Orange on November 10, 2021. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Mark Bunch. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City.

Born in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi, on March 24th, 1926, she was the daughter of Daniel Atkins and Ethel Florine (Nixon) Atkins Huskey. Dorothy graduated from American High School in Orange Tx, and went on to attend Mim’s Beauty College in Port Arthur and later attended beauty school in Detroit, Michigan. She was a loyal member of American Business Women’s Association and United Methodist Women. Dorothy worked diligently as a beautician for 35 years and owned Luther’s Bus Charter. She loved quilting, gardening in her spa, and attending church to visit with her church family and worship her Lord. She adored her cat, New Love, deeply. They were truly the best buddies. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Atkins; mother, Ethel Huskey and husband Oliver; first husband, Houston Gay Harris; second husband, Arthur G. “Jack” Luther; children, Danny Wayne Harris and George Luther, Jr., and siblings, Stanley Atkins, William Jerome Huskey and Douglas Huskey. She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Brown and husband Carl of Gurley, Alabama, Janis (Jan) Harris Davidson Peveto and husband Edward of Orange, and Phyllis Harris Chatelain and husband Jerry of Beaufort, South Carolina; grandchildren, Christopher Chatelain and wife Mary Katherine of Tallahassee, Florida, Brian Chatelain of Columbia, South Carolina, Brandie Chatelain Steen and husband Matthew of Columbia, South Carolina, Douglasxc Harris and wife Jennifer of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard Austin Brown and wife Reagan of Nashville, Tennessee, and Emily Annelise Brown of Birmingham, Alabama; step-grandchildren, Brandon Luther and Nicky Luther both of Dallas; and great-grandchildren, Christopher T. Chatelain, and Katherine Kepper Chatelain of Tallahassee, Florida.
