Trio of Mustangs, Thompson top All-District

West Orange-Stark senior Elijah Gales was named Most Valuable Player and Cornel Thompson Coach of the Year on the District 10-4A Division II All-District team.

Two other Mustangs – Carmello Jones and Keyshawn Robinson – were named Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, and 10 other Mustangs were named first-team All-District, including two in two positions.

Cristian Quiteno Polio was named first-team kicker and punter; Dakarion Judge was named first team wide receiver and first-team kick returner; and Bryson Jordan was first-team lineman on offense and defense.

Gales, Jones, Robinson were unanimous in earning superlative honors while Mustang center Demetrius Hunter and kicker-punter Polio were unanimous first-team picks, along with Orangefield fullback Hunter Ashworth and tight end Morgan Sampson.

Other WO-S first-teamers for the Mustangs, who finished their season at 11-2, were Darren Anderson, and Bryson Jordan on offense; Andrew Wilson, Jailen Brown, Dontrey McClain, Jamaal Shaw and Jadon Jones on defense.

Seven Orangefield players were named first-team, and three Bridge City players were also on the elite squad.

Cameron Dischler, Hunter Norwood, Kolbie Sowell, Brayden Babineaux and Tyler Shearin joined Ashworth and Sampson as Bobcats first-teamers while Bridge City’s first-teamers were Hunter Bellanger, Nicholas Lejeune and J.S. Bearden.

Second-team all-district people from WO-S were Shaw, Jones, Ja’kalen Jenkins and Davin Heard on offense and Jailen Lewis-Gilmore on defense.

Bridge City had 11 players earn second-team honors: Ethan Oceguera, Joey Murty, Braylen Collins, Noah Broussard, Ethan Ply, Victor Hernandez and Kyler Garlaska as receiver and kick returner on offense; Connor Ayres, Harrison Gauthier, Deegan King and Gavin Garrett as both cornerback and punt returner.

Orangefield’s second-team all-district picks were: Coby Coulter, Hunter Norwood, Macoy Marze and Jackson Humplik.
