In His loving mercy, the Lord took Nancy Sutton Prothro home February 1, 2022. She was 83.

During her time on this earth, she blessed everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was beloved by her children and grandchildren, who fondly called her “Nanny”. Her big blue eyes would light up a room, and she prided herself on being the best dressed! She was sassy but lovable, and there will be an enormous void without her.

Born December 21, 1938, in Vinton, Louisiana, Nancy graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, where she met and married William Guy Prothro. They had 44 wonderful years together, exemplified the most loving, Christ-centered marriage and are celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary in Heaven. Generous to a fault, Nancy enjoyed spending time with family, working in her yard and watching the hummingbirds that frequented her bird feeders. She was always available to listen and had the great gift of wisdom, which she didn’t hesitate to share.

She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church and active in the Ticket to Heaven Sunday School Class, where she enjoyed many treasured friendships. You will be missed more than you will ever know, Nanny.

She is survived by her children Holly Prothro Spurlin and husband David of Houston, Guy Prothro and wife Jael of Katy; grandchildren Kendall and Grant Spurlin and Sadie and Sophie Prothro; as well as brother James Sutton.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Prothro and parents Erma Lynne and Olan Sutton.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana.

A memorial celebration service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, in Second Baptist Church’s Hankamer Chapel located at 6400 Woodway in Houston.

If family and friends would like to honor Nancy, memorial gifts may be sent to The American Diabetes Association or Missions at Second Baptist Church.
