Bridge City senior fulfilling promise

Caryss Carpenter gave us a glimpse of her athletic potential as a Bridge City freshman. That ability has developed and Sam Houston State has secured a Carpenter's talent at the next level – a sign of her hard work paying off.

The latest in the long line of BC's standouts with that family name, Carpenter ran the 100-meter hurdles in an area-best time of 14.69 at the Cardinal Relays.

Caryss won her district gold medal in the high jump as a freshman, clearing 5-6 at Lumberton.

She has led the area in both events (100-meter hurdles and high jump) as of Apr. 10 and won three gold medals Monday at the start of the 22-4A meet in Lumberton.

The 22-4A, 22-3A, 21-5A and 21-6A district meets are set for this week. The top four places at those events advance to area meets.
