Mike Shugart won his ninth straight election to the West Orange City Council Saturday while Jay Odom and Lanie Brown were first-time winners.

Frances Droddy-Lopez, a former council member, finished fourth in the voting for three at-large seats.

West Orange is the only Orange County city to conduct its own elections without help from the Orange County Elections Administration.

At 9:30 p.m. Saturday, final results from the other seven jurisdictions were still not reported.

Odom, a runnerup for city council in 2021, had the top vote total of 136, with Shugart next 98, followed by Brown with 91 and Droddy-Lopez with 75.

Voters were allowed to vote for three candidates in this election. A total of 210 ballots were cast from 1,890 registered voters in the city.
