U.S. Representative Brian Babin, who has Orange County in his Congressional district, was mentioned last week in the January 6 Committee investigating the attack on the capitol.

Babin is a Republican dentist from Woodville and represents the Texas 36th District. His name was listed as being on the White House visitors log on December 21, 2020, when then-President Donald Trump called some Republican congress members to discuss disputing the presidential election.

According to Babin's official website, he issued a press release that day, December 21, 2020, to say he was objecting to the election returns and claimed fraud in the voting.

January 6 Committee members and witnesses, including William Barr, who served as U.S. Attorney General, have said they have seen no evidence of fraud, even after dozens of court hearings across the country.

Babin has not responded to being mentioned during the televised committee meeting. However, his website quotes his as calling the January 6 inquiry a "witch hunt." He says the committee has "confirmed that they're uninterested in the truth."

The committee reported other Congress members attending the December 21, 2020, White House meeting as Republicans Louie Gohmert of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Andy Harris of Maryland, Jody Hice of Georgia, Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania. Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who was a representative-elect and had not taken the oath of office, also was at the meeting.

The January 6 Committee hearing featuring Cassidy Hutchison, former aid to White House chief of staff, testified that Gohmert, Gaetz, Mo Brooks of Missouri, Biggs,and Perry had requested Trump as president to give them blanket pardons. Babin was not listed on the pardon requests.

Babin was elected to represent the 36th District in 2014 and is currently serving his fourth term. The Texas Legislature created the 36th District after the 2010 census. Steve Stockman, also a Republican, won the position in 2012, but opted to run for U.S. Senate, unsuccessfully, in 2014.

After the 2020 Census, Orange County has been moved to the Texas 14th District, which includes Jefferson County. Republican Randy Weber represents the district. Weber, like Babin, voted against accepting the results of the 2020 presidential election when Congress voted the night of January 6, 2021. Weber has not been mentioned during the committee hearings.

The next January 6 Committee will be held during television prime time on Thursday, July 21.
