Billy Ray Terrell, 79, Orangefield

Billy Ray Terrell, age 79, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Beaumont, Texas.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date, by the family. Dorman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care and services of Billy.

Billy was born on December 21, 1942, in Montgomery, Louisiana, to parents, Addie Bell Christy Terrell and John William Terrell. He was a boiler maker and worked for many years as a heliarc welder, with Local 587. Billy was a longtime resident of the Southeast Texas area. He married his wife, Linda, on January 22, 1983, and the couple shared 39 years together.

Billy had a strong love for his family and with open arms took on Linda’s children, as if they were his own. He took great pride in his home and yard. Billy loved working with his hands and spent countless hours woodworking, welding art pieces, and helping friends, and family, with their projects.


Billy also enjoyed watching his beloved New Orleans Saints play every chance he got.  WHO DAT! WHO DAT! He will be greatly missed by all that knew his kindness and love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Addie Bell Terrell; brother, John William Terrell; and sisters, Frances Erp, Annie Lee Miguez, and Lois Wilford.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Hanks Terrell, of Orangefield, TX; sons, Rusty Elmore and his wife, Robin, of Bridge City, TX, and James Terrell; three daughters, Debra Terrell Trahan and her husband, Bobby, of Mauriceville, TX, Vicky Elmore Murphy and her husband, Kurvest, of Orange, TX, and Becky Terrell, of Bridge City, TX; sister, Johnnie Pearl Jacks, of Orange, TX; seven grandchildren, Paige Elmore, Ashley LeBlanc, Lacie Trahan, Justin Terrell, Jamison Fairchild and his wife, Jade, Shontel Smith and her husband, James, and James Sonnier, III; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Crow, Paighten LeBlanc, Adelyn Travis, Corbin Fairchild, JoJo Smith, Zoey Smith, and his namesake, Braxton Ray Sonnier; numerous nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
