It brings our family great sadness to announce the passing of Cheryl Lynne Bass on Thursday, September 8th , 2022, in Kingwood, Texas. Cheryl attended West Orange-Stark High School and received a bachelors degree from Sam Houston State University. After retirement, Cheryl lived in West Orange, Texas.

Cheryl is survived by three children: daughter Brett McLeod and husband Keith of Crockett, Texas, son Justin Otte and wife Rebecca of Humble, Texas, and son Ross Otte of Kingwood, Texas. Cheryl has four grandchildren: Jacob McLeod, Katie Harkrider and husband Dustin, Caleb Otte, and Ethan Otte, along with three great grandchildren. Cheryl is also survived by many beloved family and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by parents AB and Eva Bass and sister Carol Ford.

There is no denying Cheryl devoted her life to her children. It did not matter to give up excitement or adventure to be close to home if she was needed. And I do not think she will ever know how much she was.

Every kid needs a memory, especially as holidays pass, we grow older, and the desire intensifies to capture the moments that bring us the most happiness. Even if creating those memories involved running around in the dark and cold throwing pecans on the roof to mimic sounds of reindeer to excite your kids the night before Christmas.

But that is what Cheryl did – devotion.

Cheryl spent most of her career serving and fighting for people in the community with disabilities. Writing grants to open centers to provide a variety of resources to help people with disabilities find a job, buy an accessible van, and access all the tools needed to live an independent life. Being a single mother, Cheryl spent her free time providing for her kids. Living a quiet and modest life, she raised three children in Latexo, Texas. Cheryl’s goal was to pass along good values, hard work, and a sense of humor. Anyone who has met her kids would agree that she succeeded in her goal.

Her family and friends will always remember her as the sweetest person.

Funeral services for Cheryl Bass will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas with Pastor Warren Wargo officiating.
