Sherry Ann Huckaby, age 79, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, in Orange, Texas. Services to honor Sherry will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10:00AM, at Dorman Funeral Home. Visitation of family and friends will be held prior to services, from 8:00AM to 10:00AM, at Dorman Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet for rite of committal and interment, following services, at Wilkinson Cemetery.

Sherry was born on Thursday, February 25, 1943, in Orange, Texas, to parents, Mildred and Jack Fruge. Sherry worked for the Dallas County Sheriff's Office for twenty one years and served in the department's correction, patrol and warrant execution unit. She was admired by her colleagues for her honesty and integrity, she was a true partner in blue and was proud of the uniform she wore. Sherry loved her sons with all her being and would move mountains for them. They were her true inspiration in life. She was known to have a quick smile and an even quicker wit to match. Sherry had a zest for life and a great fondness for animals. In addition to being a loving mother to her two sons, Sherry was also known to parent raccoons, squirrels, iguanas and even a crow, that would ‘call’ for her. Sherry found a sense of peace in being surrounded by nature and plants of all types, in particular Ivy. Sherry was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be loved and deeply missed, by all who knew her.


Sherry is preceded in death by her husband, C.J. Huckaby; parents, Mildred and Jack Fruge; brother, Wendal Fruge; sister, Linda Fruge Marshall and her husband, Malcom. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Terry Huckaby and his wife, Laura, of Katy, Texas, and Brent Huckaby and Alesha, of LaPorte, Texas; brother, Dean Dyson and his wife, Anita, of Orange, Texas; granddaughter, Ashlyn Huckaby; grandson, Colton Huckaby; and numerous members of extended family, and friends.
