Lady Bobcats bounce Buna and Kountze

Greenlea Oldham of the Lady Bobcats totaled 17 kills in their two wins last week against Buna and Kountze

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats battled the Buna Lady Cougars on Tuesday, October 18, in an exciting five-set volleyball contest. Orangefield won the match to improve its record to 9-3 in district play.

The Lady Cougars playing at home won the opening set 25-18 before Orangefield took the next two sets 25-23 and 25-18 to take the lead in the match. Buna rebounded to grab the fourth set 25-20 forcing a fifth set. The Lady Bobcats captured the deciding set 15-10 to gain the victory.

Three Lady Bobcats Mackenzie Haley, Harleigh Rawls, and Greenlea Oldham each had 10 kills in the match. Kylie Mouton was the leader for Orangefield with 3 blocks. Brianna Moore was the assist leader with 27. Libby Thurman had 34 digs to top the Lady Bobcats. Haley, Moore, and Mouton each had 2 aces.

Orangefield had a little easier time of it on Friday, October 21, sweeping the Kountze Lady Lions. The Lady Bobcats took the three sets 25-20, 25-14, and 25-18 at Kountze.

The Lady Bobcats were led by Greenlea Oldham with 7 kills while Harleigh Rawls and Mackenzie Haley both had 6 kills. Libby Thurman served 4 aces and had 14 digs. Brianna Moore with 19 assists led Orangefield in that stat.

An important match to decide second place in the district was played on Tuesday, October 25, at Orangefield. A win by the Lady Bobcats would clinch second place for them, a loss would force a play-in match with Anahuac to determine second and third place.
