Starts law career with the Houston Police Department

West Orange-Stark Alumni, Jared K. Dupree, began his next phase of life with a career in law enforcement on Monday, October 17, 2022 and became a full time sworn police officer of the Houston Police Department, the fourth largest city in the United States. Jared completed a six (6) month police cadet training in the #255th class with HPD, excelling in physical fitness, exam testing, and defense training. After successfully completing the TCOLE Exam (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement), Jared was assigned to the HPD – Westside Division.

The former WOS Mustang “honor student” graduated in the Class of 2017, where he excelled in the classroom and extra-curricular activities of National Honor Society, Student Government, Choir, Community Service Volunteer Programs, and Sports.

Continuing on to college, Jared earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at The University of Texas at Austin and graduated May 22, 2021. The former UT Longhorn competed in Track & Field in the high jump and was a member of the 2021 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Team.


Jared is the son of Linda Platt-Bryant and Keith B. Dupree. He is the grandson of the late - Carl Platt Sr. and Mrs. Helen J. Platt of Orange, Texas and the late – Earl Dupree Sr. and Mrs. Erma J. Dupree of Dallas, Texas.

Jared stated, “I am excited about this opportunity and committed to securing a safe community with positive communication and trust from the police.

Jared is under the leadership of Chief, Troy Finner at Houston Police Department. When asked by Chief Finner as he pinned his badge, “are you ready Dupree”, Jared stated, “I was born ready, Chief”.
