Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Vernon “Keith” Walker, Jr. 91, of Beaumont, passed away on November 2, 2022, at home.
Vernon was born in Port Arthur, Texas and was a proud father, grandfather, Marine, and Texan. On September 10, 1931, he was born to Tera (Hooper) Walker Grass and Vernon Keith Walker, Sr. More than anything, Vernon loved his family, and his first joy is when the kids took him to dinner and paid.
He was a good man that folks seemed to love. Vernon was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish and was always generous with his catch.
On weekends, you would find him at “Squeezes” having a beer or two, and for his 90th birthday, family and friends gathered there to celebrate and toast the man. As Vernon aged and slowed down, the simple pleasure of feeding the birds and watching them filled his days. You could find him staring out the window and admiring all of God’s beauty.
His grandkids knew him as Paw Paw, the United States knew him as a Marine, and he proudly served in Tsingtao, China. Semper Fi!
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Walker; brother, Billy Walker; sisters, Wanda Osborne, and Clydia Guillory; and granddaughter, Stephanie Hallmark.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry R. Bridges and husband Gary of Vidor, Texas; sons, Vernon Keith Walker III and wife Diane of Lumberton, Texas, and Gary L. Walker of Lumberton, Texas; daughter-in-law, Lauren McLaren of Lumberton, Texas; grandchildren, Neal Bridges and wife Amy of Mauriceville, Texas, Casandra Mathews and husband Gerald of Chatsworth, California, Vernon Keith Walker IV and wife Nicole of Lumberton, Texas, Justin Walker of Lumberton, Texas, Cory Walker of Lumberton, Texas, and Cade Walker of Lubbock, Texas; and brother, Jerry L. Walker and wife Audrey of Brookeland, Texas; and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu flowers, please make memorial contributions to Fishers of Men Ministries, P. O. Box 2152, Davenport, IA 52809.
