Lady Cardinals win Area Championship

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals won their playoff with Madisonville in straight sets to become Area Champions and advance to the third round of the state playoffs in volleyball

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals volleyball team continued its superb play through the first two rounds of the state playoffs. The Lady Cardinals were undefeated in 12 district matches and had not lost a set in advancing to the third round of the post season.

In the Bi-District round Bridge City swept the Liberty Lady Panthers in three tight sets at Winnie on Tuesday, November 1. The Lady Cardinals won the opening set 25-21 which proved to be their easiest set.

The second set went extra points with Bridge City edging Liberty 26-24. The final set was also decided by two points 25-23 with the Lady Cardinals winning it to take the match.

Demi Carter was dominate at the net for Bridge City with 17 kills and 7 blocks. She added 9 digs. Taryn Doiron led the Lady Cardinals in assists with 20 in addition to her 6 kills, 5 digs, and 4 aces.

Saving several points was Lexi Nugier with 17 digs. Anna Kelly played a big role with 5 kills, 4 aces, and 4 digs. Makenna Knight had 6 blocks for the Lady Cardinals against Liberty.


On Friday, November 4, Bridge City played the Madisonville Lady Mustangs in the Area round. The Lady Cardinals again took the match sweeping the three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-15.

The Lady Cardinals were led by Demi Carter with 18 kills, 5 blocks, 6 aces, and 7 digs. Taryn Doiron had the most assists for Bridge City with 21 while adding 9 kills and 6 digs.

Anna Kelly contributed 5 kills, 4 aces, and 5 digs to help the Lady Cardinals win the match over Madisonville. Lexi Nugier once again led Bridge City in digs with 13 while also serving 3 aces. Cambree LaComb assisted on 11 points.


The third round of the playoffs was played Tuesday, November 8. The Bridge City Lady Cardinals lost to the Huffman Lady Falcons 3-1 in sets at Baytown Lee College.
