John David Shaw, 56, of Port Arthur, passed away at his home, on December 14, 2022. Memorial gathering will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Rudolph Lambert American Legion Post 7 in Port Arthur. Born in Merced, California, on April 20, 1966, he was the son of William and Hannah Shaw. David proudly served in the the United States Air Force for several years. During this time, he was an accomplished archer and took part in multiple competitions. After his time in the Air Force, he worked as a bartender at Sundance, then Hunters Club in Beaumont. He married Shanon Chambers in 1994 and they had 2 children, Hannah and Mason. The family spent almost 7 years in the Northwest between Idaho and Washington. They returned home in late 2004 to be close to family again. While David and Shanon divorced in 2015, they remained good friends and co-parenting team. He worked at Inspectorate, Camin Cargo, and AmSpec and held multiple positions from inspector to dispatcher and coordinator. He had an incredibly strong work ethic. When he did break away from work, David's greatest passion was cooking. His skills as a chef could not be beat and he always made sure to cook enough for everyone, often looking as if he was feeding an army. David had a deep love for the outdoors. This love was cultivated in his youth and it developed further when he studied wildlife biology at the University of Idaho. He passed it along to his children through hunting, fishing and trips to the mountains surrounding Lewiston, ID and Yellowstone National Park. He was an avid soccer and Nascar fan. David had many cherished memories of attending races at Talladega with his son. More than anything, David loved his children and his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Paw Paw. He was a treasure to those that knew him and will be deeply missed for years to come. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Shaw and Hannah Shaw; his brother, Robert Shaw; uncles Bud Nash and Bill Nash; and aunt Mildred Nash. He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Leger of Fannett; son, Mason Shaw of Nederland; two grandchildren, Evangeline Leger, and Rhett Leger of Fannett; ex wife Shanon Shaw of Nederland; in-laws Charlie and Vicki Iwasko of Port Neches; aunt Sue Grigg of Baton Rouge, and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
