Lady Mustangs and Lady Cardinals do well in Buna

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals took home the third place trophy after competing in the Buna girls basketball tournament

The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs and the Bridge City Lady Cardinals participated in the Buna Girls Basketball Tournament the last week of December. The Lady Mustangs and the Lady Cardinals competed well enough to play in the championship game and the third place game.

West Orange-Stark lost by one point 34-33 to the Starks Lady Panthers from Louisiana in the championship game. The Lady Mustangs took home the second place trophy from the tournament.

Bridge City did better in the third place game defeating the host team Buna Lady Cougars 46-29. The Lady Cardinals were led by Kennedy Campbell who scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Cambree LaComb provided 7 points while Kaylee Britten, MaKenna Knight, and Rylynn Thornton each contributed 6 points to the winning effort. Thornton also led Bridge City in rebounds with 9 before fouling out.

District action resumed on Tuesday, January 3, for both West Orange-Stark (2-1) and Bridge City (0-3). The Lady Mustangs traveled to Lumberton and played the Lady Raiders. The Lady Cardinals hosted the Little Cypress Mauriceville Lady Bears (1-1).

West Orange-Stark has a tough schedule in the next ten days. On Friday the Lady Mustangs play at home against the Jasper Lady Bulldogs. After their bye on Tuesday, January 10, the Lady Mustangs then face the currently undefeated in district Silsbee Lady Tigers on Friday, January 13 which will close out the first half of district action for West Orange-Stark.

Bridge City has its first half of district bye on Friday, January 6, before the Lady Cardinals play at Vidor on Tuesday, January 10. The first half of district concludes at home for the Lady Cardinals against Lumberton on Friday, January 13.
