Donald Wayne Hughes, 64, of Manvel, Texas, passed away on January 27, 2023, in Galveston, Texas.

Born in Orange, Texas, on March 3, 1958, he was the son of Junior Mathis Hughes and Viola Marie (Waldrep) Hughes.

Donald spent many years working for the City of Orange before he went on to be employed as a supervisor for the City of Houston. He was a big outdoorsman and loved any activity involving nature. Donald especially loved going to the lake, boat rides, and fishing. When it was time to step inside, he enjoyed building model trains and entertaining guests. Donald was a simple man who loved his dogs and his family.

His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Burrows; parents, Junior Mathis Hughes and Viola Marie (Waldrep) Hughes; and sister, Carolyn "Kitty" Beth Graham.

He is survived by his daughters, Christie Hughes of Orange, Texas and Shannon Hughes of Mauriceville, Texas; his furbabies, Sandy and Chica; grandchildren, Amber Lummus and husband, Duel, and Hailey Grimes; siblings, Gail Gleckler, Lance Hughes and wife, Kathy, and Jerri Tatum and husband, Jimmy; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.
