Born in Pineville, Louisiana, on November 20, 1961, he was the son of Vernon and Mary (Wiggins) Sims. Known to many as Uncle Blue Gene, Eugene was employed as a delivery driver for Fed-Ex Transport Company for several years. Before working for Fed-Ex, Eugene worked many years as a long-haul truck driver. When he was not working, he loved to travel to new places. Eugene also loved his classic cars and was a proud member of Gulf Coast Camaros. People could hear his car coming from a mile away, even more so when he was blaring his favorite rock music. Family meant everything to Eugene, especially his adored grandkids who referred to him as “Paw Paw”. He was a great man, and his memory will go on to be cherished by all who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Wiggins; grandparents, Robert and Ruth Wiggins; uncles, Robert Wiggins and Jerry Wiggins; and aunt, Sharon Belcher.

He is survived by his daughters, Kayla Turner and husband, Preston of Bridge City, Kandis Hodgkinson and husband, Clint of Orange, Texas, Kelly Lavergne and husband Phillip of Bridge City; grandchildren, Bailey, Madison, Kyndall Turner, Hailey Powell, Haley and Tyler Hodgkinson, Rafe Vice, and Ethan and Parker Lavergne; siblings, Diane Smith and husband, Rusty, Charlotte Brice and husband, Russell, Melissa Rector and husband, Marty, Angela Dewberry and husband, Forrest, Stephanie Sims, and Sammy Tarply; his dear aunt, Katherine Dunmon of Orange; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved dearly.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Quigley, Eddie Hebert, Chris Hebert, Robert Lee McQueen, Michael Dunmon, Bryan Dunmon, Keaton Dewberry, and Gary Wiggins. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Wiggins, Jr. and Glenn Wiggins.

To honor Eugene’s love for classic cars, the family requests that classic cars or Camaros be driven to his services if available.
