Olaf Halten III, 75, of Atlanta, Texas, former longtime resident of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 30, 2023, at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Visitation will take place from 1:00pm-2:00pm Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at First Baptist Church Orange with the funeral service directly following at 2:00pm.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Barry Bradley.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 11, 1947, he was the son of Olaf Halten, Jr. and Wanda Nell (Talmadge) Halten. Olaf proudly served his country during the Vietnam war in the United States Army. After returning from the army, he owned and operated Nick’s Cafe in Deweyville for several years. He then went on to be the owner of Halten’s Auto Sales for over 20 years. Olaf was a man of great faith and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Orange, where he enjoyed operating the sound system for many years. He was an active member of his community, serving on the board of Optimist Village and recently joining the American Legion Post 258 in Atlanta. Olaf loved spending time with his grandsons, shooting pool, solving puzzles, performing magic tricks, and playing card games. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, boating, and skiing.
Olaf liked tinkering with electronics and had a knack for figuring out how things worked. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his infectious smile, sense of humor, storytelling, and always having a joke for every occasion. Olaf will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Corinne and Reginald Beaty; his infant daughter, Kathleen Halten; his aunt, Jerry Talmadge Paris and husband Bob; his uncle, Bennie Ross Talmadge; and his cousin, Reggie Talmadge.
Olaf is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Ramona Halten; his children, Greg Brown of Greenville, and Meghan Bingham and husband Derek of Friendswood; his grandchildren, Cullen Brown, Elijah Bingham, Axel Bingham, and Walker Bingham; his brother, Brian Halten of Windsor, California; his nephew, Hunter Halten and wife Dayana, and their son, Wyatt; his cousins, Kenneth Anderson and wife Mary Ann of Atlanta, and Ross Talmadge and wife Peggy of Buna; his godson, Russell Brenner and wife Jacki; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
