Two of the starters for the Little Cypress Mauriceville Bears football team last year signed scholarships to play at the college level next season. Da'Marion Morris and Brady Wright were honored during a ceremony on Wednesday, February 1, at the Dr. Pauline Colburn Hargrove Gymnasium on the LCM High School campus.

Morris signed to play at Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. Wright will be at McNeese State in Lake Charles during the fall football season.

The Bears' Head Football Coach Eric Peevey introduced both of his players prior to them signing their scholarship agreements. Peevey said Wright was expected to play a lot on offense at guard last year but before the season began an unfortunate traffic accident seriously injured the Bears' prospective starting center.

Wright was shifted to the center position and worked hard to prepare for the re-assignment. Peevey stated Brady did a great job at the new position and was named all-district at center. "The work that he put in and the trust he had with his coaches were really appreciated. All that proves what he can do, and it shows that Brady can play more than one position. I think this is a great opportunity at McNeese for Brady to get even better," Peevey pointed out.

Morris first impressed Peevey shortly after being named the LCM football coach when he saw Da'Marion on the basketball court making twelve steals in one game. After watching game film from the previous football season Peevey decided with his other coaches to move Morris from wide receiver to running back and hand him the ball as much as possible.

As a sophomore Morris had been all-district at safety. Da'Marion was shifted to cornerback on defense his junior season the first under Peevey and excelled there like he had at safety making ten interceptions in his final two years.

The last two football seasons Morris as the team's primary ball carrier was the catalyst for the LCM Bears to be co-district champions in 2021. Morris was the Bears main offensive weapon to help them make the playoffs in 2022.

Peevey elaborated on the leadership shown by Morris. "This young man really took a big responsibility for the last couple of years to almost be the face of our football program. That's not easy to do. He didn't ask for it, but the coaches and his teammates said, yes, that's our leader, because he's not somebody that's going to ask for it, he's just somebody who's going to do it and show it every day. I think also going to this next level he's going to do the same thing, he's going to earn a spot right off the bat and excel at it," Peevey praised.
