Charles Louis Bigler, 76, Bridge City

Charles Louis Bigler, 76, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 13, 2023, in Nederland, Texas.

A celebration of life will be 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio of St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Charles was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on January 29, 1947.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before working 37 years as a safety supervisor for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He also volunteered at the Bridge City Fire Department for over 20 years. Charles liked to stay busy, his family often referred to him as “Charles in charge”.

He was known for helping many people with anything he could. During his free time, Charles enjoyed camping and floating the river in New Braunfels, Texas. He was also an avid grass cutter. Charles loved to restore antique and classic cars as well. He would travel all over Texas and Louisiana to participate in many car shows and charity rallies. He loved inviting all the kids in the family to his swim parties, where he would grill hotdogs and serve ice cream.

Charles was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and he loved his grandkids who called him “granddad”. His loved ones will always cherish the memories they have with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Delores Sample; and his brother, Billy Wellings.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Yvonne Bigler; son, Darrin Bigler and wife, Paige of Bridge City; grandchildren, Tristan Bigler and Meagan Bigler; brothers, Jay Bigler and Eddie Sample; sister-in-law, Olivia Wellings; grand-dog, Scout; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jay Bigler, Tristan Bigler, Eddie Sample, Steve Breaux, and Shane Leleaux.
