Leroy Joseph Sonnier, age 92, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 in his home surrounded by family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Dorman Funeral Home from 6:00PM to 8:00PM with a rosary at 7:00PM. Services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Mauriceville, Texas at 10:00AM with Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Leroy was born on November 23, 1930 in Jennings, Louisiana to parents Lucas Joseph Sonnier and Ophelia Vincent. He was employed by Gulf States Utilities for 16 years, Dupont SRW as a sheet metal fitter for 18 years and retired in 1985. Upon retirement, he spent his time white perch fishing, which was his favorite pastime, attending family crawfish boils and finding a passion in craft wood working. He served the Lord as a devout Catholic for many years in many church capacities. He was preceded in death by his parents Lucas and Ophelia Sonnier, and his wife Jerry Sonnier. Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Keith Sonnier and wife Jan of Port Arthur, and Oran Sonnier and wife Peggy of Carthage; Along with his three daughters, Jacquie Duval and husband Albert of Port Arthur, Julie Linscomb and husband Clyde of Mauriceville, Jane Bass and husband Jerry of Deweyville, and Stepdaughter Joyce Higgs and husband Steve of Bridge City; as well as 15 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Pallbearers for Leroy will be Kyle Sonnier, James Duval, Michael Gonzales, Lucas Duval, Oran Sonnier Jr., Trey Sonnier, Derek Bass, and Damon Bailey. Honorary Pallbearers will be three remaining Grandsons and all his Great-Grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to PHC Foundation at phcfamily.org of Beaumont, TX.
