Bearden wins first place at State

Hallie Bearden of Bridge City High School won the state championship in women's powerlifting for the 114-pound weight class with a total of 820 pounds lifted in the competition's three categories

The girls Texas state powerlifting competition was held Friday, March 17, in Frisco. Bridge City's Hallie Bearden is the state champion in the 114-pound weight class.

Bearden lifted a total of 820 pounds in the three powerlifting categories. Hallie squatted 295 pounds, benched 195 pounds, and deadlifted 330 pounds to capture first place.

Avery Weidner of Bridge City performed well too finishing in fourth place for the 97-pound weight class. Weidner squatted 225 pounds, benched 135 pounds, and deadlifted 250 pounds for a 610 pound total in the competition.
