Mary Frances Dupuy Barker, 83, Orange

Mary Frances Dupuy Barker, 83, of Orange, passed away on March 8, 2023, at peacefully at home.

Born in Orange, Texas, on July 2, 1939, she was the daughter of Rufis Barras and Bernice (Hudnall) Barras.

Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the best mother her daughters could have, and she made sure her children had a great life. Also, she loved her grandbabies very much and they loved their “Mawmaw”. She enjoyed cooking, especially her world-famous carrot cake.

Mary was a member of Hartburg Baptist Church and worked as a Nursing Home Administrator for 45 years in Orange and Vidor. She loved her patients dearly and they thought the world of her as well. Mary could have a firm hand but was a very fair woman. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Mary enjoyed traveling, painting, sewing, and crocheting in her free time, and would make homemade ornaments for her family and patients during Christmas time.

She was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rufis and Bernice Barras; first husband, Wilfred Dupuy; second husband, Alan Barker; brothers, Russell Barras, William “Jimmy” Barras; sister, Sue Hennigan; and grandson, Derek Hoffpauir.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Hoffpauir and Barbara Schenek -Slaughter and husband Danny; stepchildren, Len Barker and wife Jenna and Evelyn Bergeron; grandchildren, Jessica Zaki, Jennifer Baptist and husband Dominic, Corey Hoffpauir, and Christina Barker; great-grandchildren, Isabel Zaki, Shan Zaki, and Ozzy Baptist; sister-in-law, Myrtle Barras; and niece, Nora Barras Zuniga. A special thanks to Tiffanie Baltazar and Scott Lawson at Claybar for their kindness and compassion during such a hard time; as we as to Amy Campbell with Accent Hospice for her kindness to my mother, sister, and I.

The family will hold a memorial service will be held at a later date.
