Betty Alexander, 85, Bridge City

Betty Alexander, 85, of Bridge City, Texas, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on March 26, 2023. She was born in Lake Charles Louisiana, to Newton Reeves and Thelma Reeves on May 1, 1937. Betty grew up in Topsy, Louisiana with her two brothers and three sisters. She was the oldest of her siblings.

Betty attended McNeese University from 1955 to 1959 and she was in the first class that graduated after McNeese became a four-year college. She was the president of the Home Economics Department in 1958 and 1959. She worked for Louisiana Extension Service after she graduated from college. Betty married George “ Buddy” Alexander on August 16, 1957. They moved to Bridge City in 1966 and she began teaching Home Economics and Science at M.B. North Junior High School in 1967, which later became West Orange-Stark Middle School. She published a cookbook in 2003 and it is a treasure to her family and friends. After her retirement in 2003, she became a substitute teacher for 18 years. Betty loved to work in her yard and most days you could find her outside planting, watering, or mowing her lawn. She always prepared delicious meals every day for her family and she was a top-notch homemaker. Betty was a faithful member of the Bridge City United Pentecostal Church for 57 years. She served as song leader and worked with her husband in the bus ministry for approximately 10 years. Betty wore many hats but her favorite was being a wonderful wife and mother. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Coleman Alexander; parents, Newton and Thelma Reeves; two sisters Winnie Eaves and Margaret Boudreaux and brother, L.J. Reeves.

Betty is survived by her loving children: Kevin “Joe” Alexander and wife, Patty of Bridge City, Sari LaGrone and husband, Jim of Yantis, Skipper Alexander and wife, Krystyn of Katy, Mari Aquillard and husband, David “Bubba” of Bridge City and Kathryn “Kati” Alexander of Bridge City. Betty is also survived by her sister, Annie Mae Chapman of Topsy, Louisiana; her brother, A.J. Reeves of Topsy, Louisiana and sister-in-law, Shirley Gilley of Bridge City.

Grandchildren: Ashley Robinson and husband, Dustin of Bridge City; James LaGrone of Yantis; Chase Alexander and wife, Kelsey of Bridge City; Kevin Jackson and wife, Tanna of Splendora; Coleman Jackson and wife, Kimberly of Little Cypress; Lauren LaGrone Cotter and husband, Joel of Houston; Keaton Alexander and wife, Lily of Katy; Courtney Manners and husband, James of Cypress; Vienna Mae Alexander of Katy; Dustin Hughes and wife, Julia of Silsbee; Landon Harris of Bridge City; Roman and Alexis Prasarn of Katy; Alison Hampton and Tiffany Goodwin of Moss Bluff.

Great-grandchildren: Carter, Trevor, Morgan, Brodi, Kinley, Kaela, John, Mark, Ethan, Cameron, Sullivan, Kennedy, Lane, Kelsey, Casen, Katherine and James.

The family of Betty expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas for the care they provided during the last moments of her life. A special thank you to Rusty and Pam Smith and their family for being a very dear friend to our Mom. We will always remember their friendship.

Funeral Services will be held at Bridge City United Pentecostal Church on April 4, 2023 at 11am. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10am.

Burial will be at Creel Cemetery in Reeves, Louisiana on April 4, 2023 at 2:30pm.
