Everett Erwin Kahla, 89, Stowell

Everett Erwin Kahla, 89, of Stowell, Texas, passed away on March 25, 2023, in Winnie, Texas. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie, Texas.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, on August 25, 1933, he was the son of Erwin B. Kahla and Eula (Harrington) Kahla. Everett graduated from High Island Independent School District in 1950 and went on to serve in the United States Army. He later went on to work as an operator for Texaco Refinery. Everrett was a Freemason and earned his Masonic Anniversary 65 Year pin. During his free time, he loved to garden, duck hunt, and play the lottery and never missed the Wheel of Fortune.

Everrett was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and an even bigger fan of his racehorses. He loved his family and his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Pawpaw”. Everett will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Eula Kahla; brothers, Gilbert Kahla and Harold Kahla; and mother of his children, Carolyn Kahla Piletere.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Bass and husband, Micah of Woodville, Texas, Scott Kahla of Stowell, Texas, Brett Kahla of Bridge City, Texas, and Julie Kahla of Orange, Texas; grandchildren, Tanner Bass, Kaitlyn Bass, Jillian Bass, Cade Bass, Tyler Kahla, Kris Kahla, Quinten Kahla, and Skylar Kahla-Woods; great-grandchildren, Madison, Abigail, Olivia, Wyatt, Jack, Brooks, Hadley, Maddie, Rhett, and Willow; brother, Michael Kahla of Winnie; and sister-in-law, Juanita Kahla Stowell.

A special thanks to the staff at the Arboretum of Winnie.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Masonic Lodge of Winnie, to the Scholarship Fund.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
