John Richard Breitenstein, 76, Beaumont

John Richard Breitenstein, 76, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on March 30, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Orange, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Officiating will be The Reverend Keith Giblin.

Born in Rahway, New Jersey, on April 6, 1946, he was the son of John Stuart Breitenstein and Adele del’Etoile Breitenstein.

In 1968, John graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. His first job upon graduating was with DuPoint de Nemours at the Sabine River works plant in Orange, Texas, although he later transferred to the Beaumont plant. After working in Texas for a few years, he was transferred to the Chambers site in New Jersey, and then to the main office in Wilmington, Delaware. John eventually made his way overseas where he worked in the Geneva, Switzerland office, and after four years, he came back to work in Wilmington. John’s last assignment was with DuPont Dow Elastomers in Singapore for 8 years as the President and Managing Director of Asia Pacific. He lived a full life and he eventually retired in Beaumont with his family. He was able to see and do all of the things he liked to do. When John was not working, he enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard.

He was a faithful season ticket holder for the Houston Astros and loved the Southeast Texas Symphony. John was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he was an usher and also on the vestry. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed giving back to the community. His favorite ice cream was Blue Bell’s homemade vanilla. John took care of his family and loved his precious wife and children very much.

John was a wonderful husband and father, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Adele Breitenstein.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Anne Breitenstein; daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Breitenstein and fiancé Martin Dugas; son, Robert John Breitenstein and wife Kimberly Breitenstein; and his many close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 1401 W Park Ave, Orange, Texas 77630.

Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
