The Orangefield Bobcats are undefeated and in first place in the District 22-3A baseball standings. The end of March marked the halfway point of the district schedule of games.

A shortage of umpires caused Orangefield to play the Kountze Lions on Monday instead of Tuesday last week. The Bobcats scored early and often in the 17-2 triumph that was shortened to five innings because of the 15-run rule.

The Bobcats scored six runs in the fifth inning. The late rally was fueled by Camden Fountain, Kyle Michael, Logan Cheek, Adam Tran, and Caleb Fregia.

Brycen Tait got the pitching victory throwing four innings and surrendering two runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Colton Myers pitched a scoreless fifth to close out the win for Orangefield.

Friday's game at Anahuac was maybe the toughest district game to this point for the Bobcats. Orangefield snagged a late lead and defeated the Panthers 14-7 to keep the district slate clean for the Bobcats.

The game was tied 3-3 in the top of the fifth when Kyle Michael hit a sacrifice fly to give Orangefield the lead. Morgan Sampson swung the biggest bat for the Bobcats driving in five runs in the game with four of them coming on one swing with a grand slam homerun in the fifth. He also doubled in the seventh to drive in a run.

The Bobcats notched some insurance runs in the seventh inning. In addition to Sampson, Caleb Fregia, Cameron Dearing, and Michael all contributed runs batted in during the five-run seventh for Orangefield.

Pitcher Jason Bodin helped with his bat driving in two early runs and got the win on the mound for the Bobcats. Bodin allowed one hit and three runs over four innings striking out seven and walking none. Colton Myers and Matthew Johnson combined to pitch the final three innings for Orangefield.

The Bobcats improved to 16-3 on the season and are 7-0 in district. The second half of the district games began on Tuesday, April 4, with the Kirbyville Wildcats visiting Orangefield. The East Chambers Buccaneers come to Orangefield on Thursday to play the Bobcats.
