A strong thunderstorm with heavy rains did not stop the celebration Monday afternoon for the groundbreaking ceremony at for the new Bridge City Middle School. The event was moved inside the old school's gym instead. Members of the Bridge City school board, along with Superintendent Dr. Mike Kelly plus officials from contractor G&G Enterprises and Claycomb Associates architects posed with custom hard hats and special shovels, but did not get to dig into the gym floor. The new school will replace the current one, which is about 60 years old. The 2022 bond issue approved by voters is providing the money for the project. The new school will be able to accommodate 900 students.
