Doris Jane Hughes Steele, 88, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2023, in Orange. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Harland Strother of Cowboy Church in Orange.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Houston, Texas, on February 23, 1935, she was the daughter of Grady and Millie (Gentry) Hughes. After graduating from Orangefield High School in 1953, Doris married the love of her life, Ernest Gene Steele on September 2, 1955. She dedicated her life to her family and home and worked as a domestic engineer.

Doris was also employed as a florist at Bland’s Florist. She was a hardworking woman who volunteered in several positions including, Court Appointed Special Advocate, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Lion’s Club, American Red Cross, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, different hospitals, and Amateur Radio operator. Doris’ loved ones will always treasure their memories of her and will miss her dearly.
