Laura Bell Blackwell, 95, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on May 21, 2023, in Port Arthur, Texas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m. Officiating will be Deacon Steve Obernuefemann.

Born in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, on August 14, 1927, she was the daughter of Etus and Eudalie Romero. Laura was a lifelong faithful servant of our Lord, Jesus, and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. She was employed as a teacher for over 40 years before retiring. Laura used to be a Major League Baseball fan and especially enjoyed cheering on her Astros. During her free time, she loved to read and spend time with her family and her grandchildren, who referred to her as Mema. Laura’s loved ones will always cherish their memories of her and will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Blackwell; her parents, Etus and Eudalie Romero; brother, Lawrence Romero; sister, Florence Eckerman; and grandchild, Robin Blackwell.

She is survived by her children, Mike Blackwell and wife, Chalma of Vidor, Lou Jordan and husband, Billy of Vidor, Maureen Blackwell of Bridge City, and Roberta Overstreet and husband, Forrest of Bridge City; grandchildren, John Blackwell, Hillary Carter and husband, Jesse, Amanda Jordan, Reagan Jordan and wife, Charlie, Robert Overstreet and wife, Yuki, and Taylor Overstreet Jones and husband, Jon; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, James Romero and wife, Susan.
