WOS grad promoted to principal in Round Rock ISD

West Orange-Stark High graduate Deidra Floyd will be the new principal this year at Fern Bluff Elementary in the Round Rock ISD. She is the daughter of Tara Floyd of Orange.

Floyd began her career with Round Rock ISD as a Fern Bluff Elementary School second-grade teacher. After 14 years in the classroom and two years as a talented and gifted specialist, Floyd joined the Canyon Creek Elementary School leadership team as an assistant principal.

The school district in the announcement said:

Over the four years Floyd has served as assistant principal at Canyon Creek, she has driven continuous improvement for identifying and monitoring the progress of students in need of intervention, created early literacy professional development, improved communication and learning community relationships, increased reading performance and phonemic awareness, and restructured student council for a more inclusive focus on developing leaders. She is also a District’s Team One Program graduate, designed to provide aspiring principals with professional development relevant to the principal role.

"I view education as a life-long process and am excited to continue to learn every year from our students, teachers, and parents at Fern Bluff,” said Floyd. “I look forward to meeting each of you as we work together to build a safe, supportive, and collaborative culture for our staff, students, and families.”

Floyd holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University, is certified in elementary self-contained services, and earned her Master’s in Education Leadership and Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. She is also a graduate of Texas State University’s principal certification program.
