The new Orange Recreation Center has set its September schedule that includes a youth 3-on-3 co-ed basketball tournament at the end of the month.
The center on Orange Avenue at the site of the old natatorium, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. Because of high school football season, the center will be closing early, at 5 p.m., on Fridays for the games.
In the mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 on Tuesdays through Saturdays, senior citizen walking is scheduled. Senior citizens, wearing proper shoes for the inside surface, are invited to walk around the center in the air conditioning.
The center will have basketball for all ages from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. At that time period on Fridays, homeschool students of all ages will have free play, and on Saturdays at the same time, free play is open to everyone. The center is closed to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In addition, the center closes from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays for staff changes. On Saturdays, that time is for free play for all ages.
The hours of 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. will have free play on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The center will close at 5 p.m. on Fridays and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Volleyball for all ages is scheduled for that time on Wednesdays, and basketball for all ages at that time on Thursdays.
From 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, free play for all ages will be held. On Tuesdays, volleyball is set for the hours, with basketball on Wednesdays.
The co-ed 3-on-3 basketball tournament is for kids in grades fifth through eighth, or ages 10-14. Participants are required to live within the city of Orange, which pays for the recreation center. The tournament will be at 10 a.m. September 30 and the last day to register is September 22. All three members of a team should register together. Each winning team member will receive a laptop computer as a prize.
