District Volleyball Action Has Started

District volleyball action began the first week of September for three of the four local high schools in Orange County. Bridge City, Little Cypress Mauriceville, and West Orange-Stark will compete in District 19-4A while Orangefield will play in District 22-3A.

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals opened the district on Tuesday, September 5, with a sweep at Silsbee. The Lady Cardinals won the first set over Silsbee 25-19 and matched that same score in the second set. Bridge City closed the match with a 25-9 decision in the third set.

The leader in kills for the Lady Cardinals with 22 was Demi Carter. Makenna Knight added 7 kills and made 15 digs. Setter Cambree LaComb made 28 assists for Bridge City. The back row of the Lady Cardinals were busy as Lexi Nugier had 12 digs, Kaylee Britten saved 9 digs, and Natalie Chavez chipped in with 7 digs.

The Little Cypress Mauriceville Lady Bears played their first game in district on Tuesday, September 12. The contest was in Bridge City.

The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs fell at home to Vidor in their district opener. The Lady Pirates swept the three sets 25-8 25-10 25-10. The Lady Mustangs played at Lumberton on Tuesday earlier this week.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats started district action at Kirbyville on Friday, September 8. The Lady Bobcats came away with a sweep 25-10 25-20 and won a thrilling third set 30-28 to claim the victory.

Leaders for the Lady Bobcats were Brianna Moore with 4 aces and Kaitlyn Jenkins who served 3 aces. Lela Francis was the leader in blocks with two. Greenlea Oldham was tops with 9 kills followed by Jenkins with 6 and Francis with 4 kills.

Hannah Block made 20 digs to lead Orangefield in that statistics while Addi Moore made 11 and Eliese Gravett had 7 digs. Setter Brianna Moore led with 27 assists in the three sets.

Sandwiched around their district game with Kirbyville the Lady Bobcats also played in the YMBL Tournament in Beaumont on Thursday and Saturday. Orangefield defeated Kirbyville and Kountze, lost to Vidor, and then defeated Hamshire-Fannett to take Third Place overall in the tournament.

The Lady Bobcats resumed their district schedule on Tuesday, September 12, at Warren. A big district game will be this Friday in Orangefield against East Chambers.
