Lady Bobcats beat Buna in volleyball

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats are in the thick of the playoff hunt in their volleyball District 22-3A. The Lady Bobcats are 4-1 and trail first place Anahuac by one game in the standings.

Orangefield split its two matches last week. The Lady Bobcats lost to the always tough Hardin Lady Hornets on Tuesday before winning a thriller on Friday at Buna in five sets to move into a second place tie with the Lady Cougars.

Hardin lost the week before to Buna and took their revenge out on Orangefield 25-16, 25-19, and 25-18 to win the match in three sets. Hardin sits in the fourth spot in district with a 3-2 record.

Greenlea Oldham led the Lady Bobcats with 6 kills and 2 blocks against Hardin. Lela Frances served 4 aces, made 5 kills, and had 2 blocks. Brianna Moore led the team in assists with 23 while also making 10 digs. Hannah Block contributed 15 digs and Eliese Gravett made 9 digs in the loss.

On Friday Orangefield won the first two sets by identical 25-23 scores to take a commanding lead. Buna fought back to take the third and fourth sets 25-18 and 25-17 forcing a deciding set. The Lady Bobcats prevailed 15-11 in the fifth set to take the important showdown between the two rivals.

Senior Brianna Moore was a true leader for the Lady Bobcats topping them in assists with 23, aces with 5, and also making 13 digs. Greenlea Oldham led in kills with 10 and made 2 blocks. Lela Francis matched Moore with 5 aces and led in blocks with three. Hannah Block had 17 digs to lead Orangefield. Mikayla Locke had 6 kills and 8 digs. Kaylea Gravett served 2 aces.

Orangefield played its third straight road game on Tuesday, September 26, at Kountze. The next game for the Lady Bobcats is a big one at Orangefield against first place Anahuac on Friday, September 29.
