Bridge City undefeated atop volleyball standings as the second half has started

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals started the second round of district volleyball action last week. The Lady Cardinals won both their matches to remain undefeated at 8-0 in District 19-4A and in first place.

On Friday, October 6, Bridge City played at Little Cypress Mauriceville against the second place Lady Bears. The sets were all close, but the Lady Cardinals won in straight sets 25-18, 28-26, and 25-22 to take the match and hand the Lady Bears only their second loss in district.

The Lady Cardinals had a great team effort with contributions from many players. Demi Carter led in kills with 15, blocks with 5, and had 8 digs. Makenna Knight was second in kills with 10 and made 13 digs.

Bridge City's setter Cambree LaComb had 30 assists and 14 digs. Nicole Sasser made 4 kill shots and added 6 digs. Hensley Morgan made 5 kills, Lexi Nugier had 18 digs, Kaylee Britten saved 10 digs, and Natalie Chavez rounded out the Lady Cardinals leaders with 6 digs.

Three nights earlier in Bridge City on Tuesday, October 3, the Lady Cardinals swept Silsbee in three sets. The scores were 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14.

Demi Carter had a season high 24 kills in the match. Makenna Knight was second in kills with 7, first in aces with 4, and had 4 digs. Cambree LaComb made 28 assists and Lexi Nugier contributed 9 digs for the Lady Cardinals.

Tuesday of this week was the second half bye for the Lady Cardinals. Their next game is Friday, October 13, at Bridge City against Vidor who the Lady Cardinals needed five sets to beat in their first district meeting between the two teams.
