Bridge City's Munoz signs to play at LSCPA

Bridge City High School held a college signing event for one of their student athletes on Monday. Haley Munoz signed her scholarship to play softball with the Seahawks at Lamar State College Port Arthur.

Haley is thrilled for the chance to play softball at the next level. "I'm so excited and very thankful to have another opportunity to play softball and to go off to college. I am going for a nursing degree. I want to be an intensive care nurse," Munoz responded.

Last season was a good one for Munoz, and she is hopeful for a big year by Bridge City in softball during this her senior year. Haley expressed, "We're going to be really good this year. Coach Bradley has done a lot for us, and we're so excited to get started and make it to state."

Coach Kylie Bradley of the Bridge City softball program praised Haley for her huge impact on the team. "She maybe small in stature but it shocked me how loud her presence was on the field when she is out there. It is clear to anyone who has coached her or played alongside her that Haley will do absolutely anything for her team to compete. By making sure the little things are done right, to stepping into roles and positions that need to be filled Haley has always gone above and beyond to simply do more than what is required," Bradley explained.

This coming softball season will be the fourth for Munoz to be on the Bridge City varsity. In 2021 she was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. The last two years Haley was named All-District first as a utility player and then this past season as a catcher.

Haley's statistics were impressive during the 2023 season driving in 30 runs, collecting 36 hits, and reaching base at a sensational .508 percentage. She also had an almost perfect fielding percentage behind the plate as the Bridge City catcher.

Coach Bradley concluded, "I have no doubt that she has a very successful career ahead of her both athletically and in any of her possible endeavors to come. Lamar Port Arthur is very lucky to be getting a player like Haley. She's tough, but she is also very eager to impress her coaches, make her teammates proud, and to share her success with anyone who is a part of her athletic journey."
