David Earl Mayes, 60, of Urania, Louisiana, recently relocated to Beaumont, Texas to be cared for by family, passed away on January 26, 2024, at home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Faith Baptist Church in Vidor. Officiating will be Pastor Joe Reed. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 4, 1963, he was the son of Carroll Mayes and Estelle Kate (Lightfoot) Daenen. David was known for his very sweet and loving nature, always displaying kindness towards others. His family often remarked that anyone who had the privilege of meeting him became better just from that encounter. This was especially heard among the many friends and family in the community of Urania, Louisiana where David had lived since 2008. While in the area, David worked many years at the LADD Center. He had many jobs and tasks which he loved, such as working in the resale store, assisting with various cleaning duties in and outside of the center, and made many friends while assembling packages for local hospitals and other businesses. David was awarded "Employee of the Month" because of his devotion and love for his work. David had a deep passion for Spider-Man and the Avengers. Additionally, he held a special place in his heart for the music group “Alabama” and frequently listened to their songs. Among his favorites was "Roll On," which always managed to uplift his spirits. One of David's proudest accomplishments was having the opportunity to meet the singers of Alabama backstage at one of their concerts. This experience created lasting memories that he treasured dearly. He often referred to himself as "Uncle David," emphasizing the bond he had with his family members. His presence brought warmth and laughter to countless gatherings, ensuring everyone felt supported and loved. His infectious smile and caring demeanor touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Bobby Daenen; grandparents, D.G. and Audie Mayes and grandparents, Leslie and Janet Lightfoot, whom were very special to him. He is survived by his father, Carroll Mayes and wife Sheela; mother, Kate Daenen; siblings, Steve Mayes and wife, Amie, Dorothy Long and husband, Jason, Scott Mayes and wife, Dawn, Monica Sullivan and husband, Todd, Adam Mayes, and wife Shera, Michael Daenen and wife, Sheri, and Patricia “PJ” Boone and husband, John; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. Cremation will be held under the direction of Simple Tributes in Orange.
