Parks takes second in first golf tourney of the year

Lincoln Parks of Orangefield got the silver medal for finishing second at the Vidor Invitational the opening high school varsity golf tournament of the year

The first week of the local high school golf season was held the next to last day of January. Twenty-one teams traveled to Beaumont at the Brentwood Country Club to compete in the Vidor Invitational which was the first tournament of the season.

Orangefield's Lincoln Parks took the second place medal in the individual competition. Parks shot a one over par 73 to finish only one stroke out of first place which went to Jett Surratt of Carthage with an even par score of 72.

Bridge City entered two teams in the tournament with its A-Team finishing tied for fourth place with Lumberton at combined score of 366. Brayden Denison shot an 87 and Luke Campbell finished with a 90 to lead the Bridge City golfers.

Orangefield was in sixth place with a combined score of 368. Cole Sanches had an 85 as the second lowest score for Orangefield behind Parks.

Little Cypress Mauriceville finished in the top ten in ninth place with a combined score of 388. Maddox Manuel took ninth place shooting an 81 while Carter Foreman followed with a 98 for LCM.

Next week the varsity boys from the local high schools will be competing in the Anahuac Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Chambers County golf course on Wednesday, February 7.
