Hallie Bearden of Bridge City took second place in the 123-pound weight class at the state powerlifting competition on Friday, March 15

Bridge City had a defending state champion in girls powerlifting competing for back to back titles on Friday, March 15. Hallie Bearden actually lifted the same amount of weight as her closest competitor in the event, but Hallie had to settle for second place because she had a body weight one pound heavier than her opponent.

Bearden a junior at Bridge City High School competed in the 123-pound weight class at the competition on Friday. Last year she won the 114-pound weight class lifting a total of 820 pounds in the three powerlifting categories.

In Friday's meet Bearden lifted a total of 870 pounds with 325 lbs. in the Squat, 230 lbs. in the Bench, and 315 lbs. in the Deadlift. Hallie exceeded her totals from last year by at least thirty pounds in the Squat and Bench, but fell a little short of her mark from last year in the Deadlift which has frequently been Bearden's best lift.

Having been a leading power lifter since her freshman year has resulted in Bearden holding some state and national records for her previous weight class. Hallie will be working hard over the next year to regain a state title.
