Mary Ann Kennon, 86, of Brookland, Texas, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Brother Paul Swearingen. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in DeQuincy, Louisiana, on January 28, 1938, she was the daughter of Elmer Shoemake and Myrtle Martha Nelson Shoemake. Mary had a fulfilling career working as an RN for Dr. Billie Stuntz and Orange Memorial before retiring from Temple Inland. Her compassion and skillful care touched the lives of many patients throughout her career. Outside of her profession, Mary found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was known for her talent in crafts and sewing, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity. A true giving spirit, Mary dedicated her time to volunteering at Baptist encampments in serene locations like Lake Tahoe, California, and Lake Tomahawk in Woodville, Texas. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "Nana," a title that symbolized the immense love and warmth she shared with them. Mary was renowned for being the best grandmother, always there to offer guidance, laughter, and unconditional support. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore different destinations through travel, creating unforgettable memories along the way. Mary's nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family; every month she hosted a special party at her home to celebrate family members on their "birthday month." She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jerry Kennon; her parents, Elmer and Myrtle Shoemake; and her sister, Karen Sue Anderson. She is survived by her daughter, Kimmie Brown and husband, Ron; her son, Jerry L. Kennon, Jr.; her grandchildren, Michael Sullivan and wife, Brittany, Katie Sullivan, Ashleigh Davis, Cameryn Kennon and wife, Catherine, and Zackary Kennon; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Shoemake and wife, Carolyn; her sister, Janice Lackey and husband, Steve; and numerous other loving family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Sullivan, Jerry L. Kennon, Jr., Ron Brown, Zack Kennon, Shelby Boudreaux, and Aaron Sullivan.
