Fun weekend on tap with boat races and music

It’s spring time in Orange County and that means it is time for some fun on the Sabine River.

The Explore Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the Rock the River and DSRA Boat Races taking place at the City of Orange Boat Ramp and Riverside Pavilion starting Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5. Admission is free each day for this family-friendly event.

The activities start Friday as the gates open at 5 p.m. Live music is provided by Keith Frank at the Riverside Pavilion from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. that night and tons of great food will be available from numerous vendors.

The gates open at 10 a.m., Saturday as the public is welcome to check out the blazing speed these various boats can generate in mere seconds. The DSRA Boat Races have been a regular attraction in Orange for many years and always provide plenty of excitement for everyone.

Along with food vendors and kids zone, the live music is sure to be a hit as well on Saturday, as The Flip Flop Man performs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by The Pegwinders from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Local country musician Jamie Talbert takes the stage from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Velcro Pygmies close out the evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The boat races resume Sunday with the gates opening at 10 a.m. and the food and fun lasts until 5 p.m. that afternoon.
