Harold McDonald, 91, Orange

Harold McDonald, 91 years old of Orange, Tx. was called to his Heavenly Father on June 20, 2024, in Lumberton, Tx. at The Haven Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10:00 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 in the chapel. Harold was born on April 8, 1933, to Walter and Essie McDonald. After graduating from Little Cypress School in 1951, Harold joined the United States Air Force and served as a Medic for the next four years. After his time in the Air Force, he began his career of 30 plus years at DuPont in Orange as a lab analyst. He married Audrey Bonin McDonald on July 16th, 1966, and began a beautiful life together with Harold's son Stace. Two years later they had a daughter, Marianne. They enjoyed camping at Red Hills Lake and trips to Florida. Audrey and Harold enjoyed fun trips to New Orleans with their friends and Friday night football game afterparties following Battlin' Bear games. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his true passion was golf. Harold had three holes-in-one throughout his golfing days and made some very dear buddies that would all golf together multiple times a week. In 1997 his first grandchild was born, Peyton. Then five years later Karli (his #1 Sweetie) came along, and he devoted the most of his time doing whatever they wanted to do, from fishing with Peyton to letting Karli fix his hair playing beauty shop. From little league to high school, he never missed a football or baseball game of Peyton's. He was there for all the little league softball games and dance recital for Karli also. He was the best Pawpaw to them, and he will be missed deeply, but what amazing memories they will have of him. Left to cherish his loving memory is his son, Stace McDonald, daughter, Marianne Pruett and husband Brad, grandson, Peyton Choate and wife Alexa, granddaughter, Karli Choate, step-grandsons, Mason and Blake Pruett, brothers Jerry McDonald (Mary) and Wayne McDonald (Myrna), brother-in-law Jesse Bonin (Donna) and multiple nieces and nephews. Proceeding Harold in death are his wife; Audrey, his parents, Essie and Walter McDonald, in-laws, Jesse and Annie Bonin, brother Jimmy McDonald, sisters, Betty Brister and Delores Watson, nieces, Cheryl Watson and Patsy Watson. Serving as pallbearers will be Peyton Choate, Brad Pruett, Mason Pruett, Clint Plant, Brooks Bonin and Jude Danks. The family would like to send a special thank you to his caregiver, Veronica Guillory who gave him wonderful care at home for almost a year. Velma Tompkins, and during the last week of his life Harold had the best care from The Haven Assisted Living in Lumberton, Tx. Shannon Hale and her staff moved mountains to make sure Harold and his family were comfortable during the remainder of his time on earth.
