    This past year was a real challenge for beekeepers. We had 2 named hurricanes and a named winter storm that brought historic cold, ice and freeze damage. Our homes were damaged our yards were damaged and our citrus trees were frozen. Even the plant nurseries struggled to supply plants for our gardens and yards.     Do you ever wonder why you don’t see honeybees in the winter? Well it’s because they don’t leave the hive when temperatures are lower than the mid 50’s. The bees in the hive will stay clustered in the hive to keep the brood area 92 to 95 degrees F. They will eat the honey that they stored all summer to keep the hive alive.     When you buy Honey at the store Local does not mean the honey came from American Bees. Honey is a unregulated industry so the packagers can put just about anything on the label. The honey packers make a big deal about pure honey. They brag on testing and purity, yes they are selling honey from bees. They might be Asian bees or South American bees but they are definitely NOT American bees.
