In district 21-3A, the Cardinals had another nice week, by taking over first place, and stamping their way into the playoffs. They beat WO-S and Hamshire-Fannett, which guaranteed them at least a co-district championship. The only thing standing in their path of an outright championship is the Orangefield Bobcats. The Bobcats split their games last week with a loss to Hamshire-Fannett and a win against the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks. Orangefield must beat Bridge City to have any chance of making the playoffs. The West Orange Stark Mustangs had a tough week; losing to Bridge City and Silsbee. Their last game will be against Hardin-Jefferson.

In 20-4A, the LC-M Bears are in the playoffs, but lost both games last week. Both games came by way of the seventh inning homeruns. LC-M lost to PN-G 5-4 and Livingston 7-5. The Bears will face off with the district leading Nederland Bulldogs for their last district game. Vidor’s remaining game is with Livingston, a must win game for them to have a chance at the playoffs. Vidor split their games last week by beating Central 18-0, but lost to PN-G 8-5.

The Bridge City Cardinals, in a much needed winning game, and the WO-S Mustangs in a must win game faced off last Tuesday for another Orange County battle.

The Cardinals stayed atop the standings with a 15-5 win.

The Cardinals belted fourteen hits in the contest led by Bryce Sampere, who had a perfect day at the plate, going three for three, two doubles, a single and a walk.

Mitchel Hubbard had three hits in the contest, a double and two singles.

Zach Smith contributed with two hits, a double and a single and Matt Menard had two singles.

Dylan Mulhollan added a two run long ball to his stats and Preston Pitman had a double.

The other two hits were singles, by Cameron Dishon and Forrest Zoch.

Zoch received another win on the mound, pitching four innings.

Zoch gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out seven.

Hayden Guidry came in to work the fifth inning on the mound, giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out one.

The Mustangs had six hits in the contest, led by Darius Mitchell with two hits, a double and a single.

Luke Domas and Chaz York each had a double and Jacoy Finney and Cash McCarson had a single apiece.

Jacob Lemoine gave up only one hit, struck out eight, and walked one to put the Cardinals in sole possession of first place by beating the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 11-1.

The one hit was a homerun.

The Longhorns had only one other runner reach third on Lemoine, and that was because of an error.

However, Forrest Zoch gunned him down on a nice throw to the plate from right field.

The Cardinals had another big offensive exposition by collecting eleven hits, led by three players having perfect days at the plate.

Mitchel Hubbard went four for four, all singles Matt Menard went two for two with two walks, a single, and a double.

Brandon Simoneaux went two for two with a walk, a single, and a double, and Bryce Sampere had another nice day, hitting two singles.

Zoch had the other hit, a single.

The PN-G Indians scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to overtake the LC-M Bears in a must win for the Indians.

The Indians scored their run on four hits, two of them homeruns in the seventh.

PN-G scored one run in the fourth inning, also a solo shot.

Kody Smith and Ryan Carline handled the pitching.

Smith gave up four hits, walked four, and struck out five.

Carline gave up five hits and struck out four while receiving a tough loss on the mound.

The Bears had ten hits scoring two runs in the third and fourth innings.

Hunter Gonzalez led the Bears with two hits, a homerun and a single.

James Swan had two hits, both were singles and Kevin Adams had a double.

The other five hits were singles from Ryan Waddell, Alex Blem, Zach Drouillard, Carline and Jonathan Allen.

The Orangefield Bobcats faced off with the first place Longhorns from Hamshire-Fannett and blew a 9-3 lead, losing 11-9.

Jakob Brown took the loss of the hill, giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out one.

Quinton Evans pitched the first four innings.

He struck out eight, but he also walked eight.

The Bobcats had a six run lead until the fourth inning, where the Longhorns tied it up.

The Longhorns went on to score three more in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.

The Bobcats scored nine runs on ten hits led by Parker James, who had a three for four night, a homerun, a ground rule double, and a single.

Jonathon DeRamus and Jake Best had two hits apiece, all singles.

Braxton Smith hit a long ball and Austin Scales had a ground rule double.

The other hit came off the bat of Evans, a single.

The Bobcats kept their playoff chances alive with a 15-3 win over Hardin-Jefferson. The Bobcats scattered twelve hits in the game, led by a four for five night, two doubles, two singles, and a walk by Austin Scales. Jake Best had two hits, a double and a single. The other six hits were all singles by, Quinton Evans, Parker James, Westin Crain, Sterling Deslatte, Luke Johnson, and Braxton Smith. Crain had a nice outing on the mound by pitching six innings. He gave up seven hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Smith pitched the seventh, giving up one hit and striking out one.

District play is winding down with only one game left for each team. The playoff bracket will be set after this week. LC-M and Bridge City are in, and Orangefield and Vidor still have a chance. Come on Orange County! See you at the park!
