Clifton Lavon Dorsey, Sr., 90, Bridge City

Clifton Lavon Dorsey, Sr. of Bridge City, Texas passed from this life into the portals of heaven, December 31, 2023.

He was born to Amos Leonard Dorsey and Vira Parrish Dorsey in East Texas, October 10, 1933.

Known as “Bill” to family and friends, he was preceded in death by his parents A. L. and Vira Dorsey, stepmother, Lula Simmons Dorsey and by the love of his life, Moyse Sellers Dorsey. She passed just nine months prior to his death.

He is survived by two sons, Clifton Lavon Dorsey, Jr., and wife, Mary Kay Black Dorsey of Newton, Texas and Michael Hugh Dorsey and wife Kelly Mannino Dorsey of Mauriceville, Texas.

Mr. Dorsey is also survived by his only sister, Linda Layton of Seguin, Texas and his sister-in-law, Oni Sellers-Roberts of Houston.

He has three grandchildren, Shane Dorsey and wife, Danielle, Corey Dorsey and wife Jessica, and Michaela Dorsey Jones and husband, Connor Jones and three great grandchildren Brooke, Slade and Hazel.

In the early 1950’s Mr. Dorsey served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Donaldson Air Force base in Greenville, South Carolina where he met and married Moyse Sellers. Shortly after their first son was born, the Air Force relocated him to England where he continued to serve. Moyse and Cliff soon followed him to Berkhamsted England where they lived for a year before returning to the States.

When his tour duty ended he was honorably discharged and relocated his family from South Carolina to Texas where he took employment with Levingston Shipbuilding and then to Dupont SRW from which he later retired.

He was a long standing and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bridge City Texas.

Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday January 6th at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas at 2:00 PM.
