  • Sherlock Breaux in the Creaux's Nest

    Updated Aug 13, 2019

ANOTHER WEEK—A LITTLE OLDER Well, as I sit here wondering what I will write about, I think about the Jeffery Epstein death. Some folks are claiming he robbed them of closure. How much more closure can there be than a man killing himself over his misdeeds. Oh well, that’s a whole other story. I’m sure some ladies are entitled to compensation but Attorney Lisa Bloom and her mom, Gloria Alred are worried about missing a big payday. Other lawyers will find clients coming out of the walls. It won’t soon be settled but in the mea...

PICK YOUR POISON To live on the Gulf Coast there is a yearly chance of a hurricane. If a storm comes it blows in and leaves its damage. We make repairs and live until the next time. I predicted we would not have a storm this year. If we do it will be late because of the high pressure due to hang over us. Summer storms don’t come every year, in a dozen years we have been hit by only three major ones. The damage is a far cry from the California fires that leave nothing standing. Fires take every possession but what a person t...

AND THE RAINS CAME When it rained, it poured. We were in a bad drought. As I write this at noon Tuesday, we have gotten slightly over five inches at my Tepee. Unlike the old days, Bridge City subdivisions drain off quicker. The city has really done a good job over the last few years to avoid home flooding problems. There are always some barriers that can’t possibly ever be solved completely, like Hwy. 87 at 1142, Texas Ave. at Roundbunch or Roundbunch at 408. If the rain quits it drains off quickly but mostly the water is t...

HISTORIC SUPER BOWL TO FEATURE LOCAL STAR At one time Jefferson County had more pro football players than any other area in the U.S. In fact, Beaumont was known as the pro football capital because so many players came from the area. It seems every year a local southeast Texas boy is involved in the Super Bowl. This year, in Super Bowl 51, Orange County is represented by Bridge City kicker Matt Bryant. Before Matt was safety Earl Thomas. The late Shane Dronett, from Bridge City, was also a Super Bowler. Then we’ve had Port Art...

RED STATES--BLUE STATES--SWING STATES I had planned to give my predictions for the upcoming presidential election this week however I have doubts about a couple of states. Depending on how they fall makes a big difference on the Electoral College vote which is what I go by. The polls that show Trump and Clinton tied in national polls have noting to do with picking the winner. Al Gore won the popular vote by nearly 2 million votes but lost Florida by 500 votes thus losing the election. There are 538 Electoral College votes,...

    Updated Jun 14, 2016

Joe Kazmar - For The Record When the Houston Astros’ Cy Young Award winning lefty Dallas Keuchel was asked in spring training this year what he expected in 2016, he replied, “Same old team, it’s just another year, We’re still going to have fun, That’s pretty much it. It’s boring.” Keuchel was right on a couple of predictions because it’s pretty much the same old team and it really is just another year, but I guarantee you, he’s not having any fun.
