County to consider HOT funding to organizations

It's now the Orange County Commissioners' Court's turn to consider approving the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee's recommendations for the 2010-2012 Hotel/Motel Tax Request Funding when the commissioners meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 5 in the commissioners' courtroom of the Orange County Administration Building, 123 South Sixth St.
The HOT Committee ultimately approved $128,500 in funding for requests by organizations at their meeting on Feb. 29. The Original requests amounted to $199,000. The committee recommend giving out $108,000 before some amendments were made.
The court will consider the purchase of two 2012 Ford F-150 trucks for $34,570 from David Self Ford. This is a purchase for the mosquito control department.
Commissioners will look into the hiring of a mechanic II position to fill a vacancy in the Road & Bridge Department.
Paula Tacker of Texas AgriLife Extension Services will be up for consideration to attend and participate in a diabetes prevention and recognition program in Atlanta, Ga. on April 17-20. The department will utilize their travel/education budget for expenditures.
Jeff Kelley, emergency management coordinator, will update the court on emergency management projects.
Road & Bridge, records management, mosquito control and parks will give a departmental report to the commissioners.
A proclamation will be read designating March 9 as "Orange County Charities Day."
Commissioners will also issue a proclamation recognizing and honoring the Port Arthur-Golden Triangle National Association of Women in Construction, Chapter No. 377 and its elected chapter officers and chapter membership at the meeting.
