Junior Steele “ Jimmy ” Yokum, 82, of Orange, passed away Tuesday, July 2, in Orange. Born Dec. 5, 1930 in Elkins, WV to his parents, Delmar Steele Yokum and Etta (Swiger) Yokum, he lived in Orange for 52 years.

He was a self employed carpenter and a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jimmy was a member of the Colony Baptist Church in Little Cypress, where he was very active in helping out. He enjoyed going fishing, spending time with his family and the gardening of flowers and vegetables.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Allene Yokum; his daughter, Debbie Brooks; his son, Jimmy Yokum; three brothers and one sister.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his son, Steele Yokum and wife, Vickie of Orange; daughter-in-law, Linda Yokum of Orange; sister, Thelma Arbogast and husband, Buddy of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Angela, Sheree, Haily, Hannah, Kristin and Denise; nine great grandchildren, Alexis, Chrisleigh, Seth, Melody, Remington, Avery, Ashton, Chase and Cheyenne. Jimmy is also survived by numerous members of his extended family.

A memorial service to remember Jimmy’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, July 8, at the Colony Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Sam Roe, pastor of the church. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Monday at the church. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.
